Alternative Investments

Alternative investing is one of the fastest growing areas of finance and is expected to reach $14 trillion in assets under management by 2023.

As the market landscape evolves, investors are becoming more sophisticated and demanding access to alternative investment strategies that in the past were only available to institutions and the wealthiest individuals.

The alternative investment asset class includes any assets beyond stocks, bonds and cash that are known as traditional investments. In an ever-changing market, diversifying your portfolio to include both traditional and alternative investments can be a wise decision.

Unlike traditional asset classes, alternative investments are illiquid – meaning they cannot be easily converted into cash. They also often have low correlation to other asset classes – meaning they move in opposite directions when the market changes – making alternatives a strong candidate for portfolio diversification.

Various assets fall under the category of alternative investments, and each of them has its own characteristics, investment opportunities and caveats. One type of alternative investment is private equity.
